Leading up to the release of their new single ‘Another Land’ on March 3, baroque psych-rock band Lucille Furs takes us on a trip through some of their favorite places in Chicago.
Punch House, which is tucked away under music venue Thalia Hall in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, has a 1960’s Mad Men meets underground/subterranean vibe. Be sure to try the $5 nightly punch special and stay late for the Punch Drunk Soul Club DJ nights that will keep you movin’ and groovin’ into the wee wee hours.
1227 W 18th Street, Chicago
Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood boasts several late night haunts, but this dive bar is a frequent for Lucille Furs, especially when DJs are spinning freak beat and psych records (or if we have been craving a VHS movie marathon).
3017 W Belmont Avenue, Chicago
El Jardin is located in the Lakeview/Boystown neighborhood and we can safely say they have the best Margarita in town (just one will do the trick). Also, try the pork quesadillas at this family-owned staple on Chicago’s north side.
3335 N Clark Street, Chicago
This amazingly decorated Tiki-type bar in the River Grove neighborhood will have you convinced that you are on the beaches of Maui and not in Chicago’s winter weather! Who doesn’t love little umbrellas in their drinks, anyways? Come to Hala Kahiki to forget about all of your troubles.
2834 River Road (River Grove), Chicago
There are two locations (in Wicker Park and Lakeview) and Lucille Furs frequent both. Ever wonder if there is a bakery/dessert heaven that incorporates 1950’s price points? Come here with a $5 bill and be surprised with the amount and quality of the Mexican sweet breads and coffee.
